I love McGrady's. Been there for business luncheons, mid-week meltdowns with the girls, birthday dinners for my daughters and others. Always the staff is wonderful, warm and welcoming (Love Nikki!!!) the food is good and the beer selections are top notch. Mixed drinks are a bonus :)
If I could give "no" stars, I would. My wife and I had dinner here once before and the food was really good, and our waitress was great.Coming from the Richmond area, we took my mom who was visiting from Seattle and stopped here on our way to see UVA and Monticello. The bartender was not friendly at all. He took our order, and to this point we weren't unhappy. We witnessed the cook yell out to the bartender three times that he had an order up (our order) but he was too busy chitchatting on the phone and fiddling with the pool table. (No one of which was using it)Finally, when he was done doing nothing, he went back to get our food. That's right folks, three lunches TOTALLY COLD!!Told Mister Angry Unfriendly Didnt wanna be there Bartender about the condition of the food and he left it there, heading off to the kitchen without an apology, or what he was going to do.He returned from the kitchen, but then he meandered through the bar. I had to actually get his attention and tell him that I would pay for our drinks and I wanted the bill. He said they were redoing the order, at which I explained to him that we had plans and not enough time to wait on another order. He brought the check, apologized and I paid exactly that amount. It's really too bad, we had a great experience the first time, and totally the opposite one this time.
Worst dining experience I've had in many years, ordered the Hoo burger for lunch and waited over 40 minutes. Had to take it to go and should have known by the look on the bartenders face that I would be disappointed. The burger was completely burned to a crisp and one bite earned it a place in the trash can. Even the Irish chips were burned and hard to eat, my lunch consisted of a pickle and a bad attitude. NEVER AGAIN!

Reviews
McGrady's Irish Pub in Charlottesville is a popular spot known for its warm and welcoming staff, top-notch beer selections, and delicious food. Reviewers have highlighted the excellent service provided by staff members like Nikki, the great variety of craft and local beers available, sinfully tasty Irish nachos, and pleasant atmosphere. However, some negative experiences were also mentioned regarding unfriendly bartenders leading to cold meals and burnt food items. Overall, McGrady's offers a relaxed bar feel away from the downtown mall area with good service and enjoyable pub fare.

Each and every visit is a pleasant taste of Charlottesville. Their staff is excellent at keeping you happy while serving great food along with an array of craft and local beers (three notchd is even next door!) The Irish nachos are sinfully tasty. This city offers dozens of amazing food options, but this place always impresses. If you're looking for a cool place to relax, McGrady's is it.
I am the father of the child that just posted and this did in fact just happen. We will not go back again. A pitcher of beer, a cheesesteak and wings with my son watching UVA basketball and in the first half they turn off the television directly in front of us and turn on Karaoke and start playing music. The owner was in fact at the bar when it happened and went on the outside deck talking on the phone as we left. The waiter did apologize and agreed it seemed very stupid. I recently read that Zin Burger was the best place to watch games.... We shall make the switch and I agree, we will not go back.... That was disrespectful!
